Brownfield Land Release Funding (BLRF)
The Brownfield Land Release Fund (BLRF) is a government initiative to bring underused or derelict brownfield land, primarily owned by local authorities, into use for housing development and community regeneration. It’s a cross-government programme between the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), One Public Estate (OPE), the Local Government Association (LGA), and the Cabinet Office.
Brownfield land is previously developed land that has had a permanent structure on it. It includes old factories, industrial estates and car parks. The brownfield fund helps councils to release land for housing development that otherwise wouldn’t be viable due to challenges arising from the state of the land.
It’s aimed at all levels of housing projects, from self-builds to large developments, and it encourages innovative delivery models. Brownfield funding is designed to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and low to medium-volume builders. It also promotes high-quality design and modern construction methods.
We advise organisations engaging in any brownfield funding project. We also advise on other government funding schemes.
