At Pagabo we take pride in providing work experience to the next generation of workers. As part of the growth of Pagabo, we believe in investing in young people and providing them with skills for their future.
We had the privilege of offering a Marketing work placement from September 2019 – September 2020 to Ben Mackay who joined us from the University of Hull.
Ben joined as part of his 4-year university degree completing a year in industry to gain more knowledge and skills for his course.
Over the course of the year Ben was a valued member of our small but powerful team and brought a real verve to the business. He took on the role of design lead, creating fresh user guides for us throughout the year along with supporting Pagabo with many other designs.
We also offered Ben access to LinkedIn Learning which provided him with thousands of courses to extend his learning even further during his time with us. Over the course of the year Ben completed over 42 hours of learning with many different course achievements.
As well as the design side, Ben also took part in creating charity ideas for the business such as our bake-off event in which we raised money for our Pagabo Foundation during lockdown in April, which was a great success.
We were also lucky enough to provide Ben with an opportunity to attend multiple Built Environment Networking events before the national lockdown. These events provided Ben with more opportunity for networking and an opportunity for him to showcase his skills to others, as well as doing a fantastic job of representing Pagabo to both clients and suppliers.
Ben reflected on his year at Pagabo and said: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at Pagabo. It has been really valuable to be a part of a fast paced, dynamic environment where no two day is the same. From the start of my placement, I was given the responsibility to get on with my own projects and with this my skills have sharpened and flourished throughout the year. I feel like I'm in great stead now to build on my university studies and get a First Class Degree."
Ben Thompson, Marketing Manager at Pagabo also reflected on Ben Mackay’s time at Pagabo and said: ‘We find working with the University of Hull to bring in placement students for our marketing team to be a really successful process. Ben was a prime example of that, and a pleasure to have working on the team last year. It was really rewarding to see him develop over the course of the twelve months, we hope that it has stood him in good stead for his final year. It was just a shame that we weren’t able to give him the full send off he deserved due to Covid!’
With the continuing growth of Pagabo we were also very happy to take on another placement student from the University of Hull, Charlotte Andrews.
Charlotte talks about how she is doing as she enters well into her third month on Placement: ‘I feel very lucky to have secured a placement this year with Pagabo as things started changing quickly in March and not many businesses decided to do a placement year for the course of 2020-2021.
My three months here have gone so quick and I have learnt so much already! I have been given some great responsibilities with some great projects up and coming, no two days are the same. Pagabo have also helped me to adapt well with the mix of working from home and office working and have supported me all the way through, allowing me to excel in my first quarter of the placement.’
We wish Ben all the luck and success in completing his degree, from #TeamPagabo
