At Pagabo, we have been returning money to the contracting authority hosts that we manage frameworks for, which allows them to invest in and develop their own initiatives. This figure has now surpassed £5m – changing and improving the lives of countless people across the UK.
From free school meals to training and education, our support has played a key role in enabling its contracting authority partners to continually assess the challenges within their local communities and find appropriate ways to help.
One contracting authority that has particularly benefitted from our support is The Education Alliance (TEAL) – host for several frameworks including Professional Services and Medium Construction Works.
This includes more than £235k per year for mental health support for pupils and staff via MIND and ELSA programmes across all of its primary and secondary schools in Yorkshire, £75k per year for its Social Prescriber Programme, which offers non-clinical services to improve pupil health and wellbeing, £80k for its BeWell programme to offer resilience and peer support though cooking for young people that have behavioural problems, and £25k per year for speech therapy within primary schools. Meanwhile, investment in LED lighting and electric vehicle charging has recently surpassed £850k, helping TEAL to reduce its carbon footprint.
Our framework director, Jonathan Oram, said: “It is so pleasing to see that our ongoing collaboration with the contracting authorities that we manage frameworks for leads to so much more than just procurement solutions.
“We’re actively involved in their charitable ambitions and contribute in a way that helps them to strengthen their own legacies. The contracting authorities in our network are responsible for so many amazing examples of positive change, supporting people to lead fit and healthy lifestyles to help them realise their dreams and achieve their potential.
“To have returned more than £5m that supports these causes through our rebate model is of course something we’re proud of, but it’s the evidence of action and change that really motivates us. We have been working with many contracting authorities for several years, meaning the impact of our approach has been quite substantial, although each has its own priorities, and we’re equally invested. Making a difference is in our DNA, so the millions given back so far are only the first of many more to come.
“The power of ethical procurement is evident. By remaining people-first in our approach, the potential to do great things and truly make a difference is huge. We’re not just part of the procurement community; we’re part of the people community – aiming to use business as a force for good wherever possible.”
As well as enabling The Education Alliance to set up schemes that support both their staff and pupils, we have helped with sustainability efforts through an £800k investment in LED lighting and electric vehicle charging infrastructure which help’s support the trust’s net zero goals.
Jonny Uttley, CEO at The Education Alliance, said: “Pagabo’s support with our range of initiatives continues to help us create great schools, build stronger communities and influence better lives. Targeted and meaningful investment has helped achieve staff satisfaction rates above the national average, while the impact on pupils varies from better health to greater confidence and independence.
In 2024, Red Kite Learning Trust – the host for several frameworks such as Refit and Refurbishment, Total Facilities Management and Academy Services – was able to create the Red Kite Foundation with our support. The foundation is designed to enhance the life experiences and opportunities of children in its care facing challenging circumstances.
Trust commercial director Steve Howell said: “As a Trust, we are committed to nurturing ambition, delivering excellence and enriching the lives of all children within our schools. In line with this mission, our Red Kite Foundation aims to give children life-long memories by giving experiences that they would not usually be able to access.
“We would particularly like to thank our commercial procurement partner, Pagabo, whose initial funding has enabled us to launch our Foundation and immediately start to make a difference.”
Since its inception, we have maintained a core aim and responsibility to ensure that everything we do as a business has a greater impact on society. From our own charity initiatives – including the creation of the Pagabo Foundation – through to how our business is set up to operate, making a difference is at the centre of our ethos.
As well as The Education Alliance and Red Kite Learning Trust, we currently manage frameworks for contracting authorities including Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, Hull City Council, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust, Rugby Borough Council, and QE Facilities.
