Construction is underway to create 12 new homes and 3 flats in Chilwell

27 June 2024

Construction has begun at the former pub and garage site in Inham Nook, Chilwell.

The development, which is owned by Broxtowe Borough Council and procured through our Professional Services Framework, will see the creation of 12 houses and 3 flats for general needs housing.

Adam Brumfitt, Regional Delivery Manager at Pagabo, said: “The council have been able to efficiently access a range of services through AtkinsRéalis via Lot 1 of our Professional Services Framework. It’s great to see AtkinsRéalis’ knowledge and experience in clean energy technology being deployed across such a broad range of projects on the framework, including residential.”

Developed by Broxtowe Borough Council as part of its House Building Delivery Plan, within its environmental commitments, a number of energy efficient measures have been incorporated into the design including:

  • Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) which are a renewable heating technology that moves existing heat energy from the outside air into the home, even in the winter months.
  • Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on the rooftops generating electricity for use in the home and anticipated to generate enough electricity to run the ASHPs.
  • Being built to an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating B and will be built with higher insulation than current standard requirements.

Portfolio Holder for Housing, Councillor Vanessa Smith, said: “It’s great to see some great progress on the development here in Chilwell. At Broxtowe we’re committed to creating more secure and affordable homes for the people that need them within our community, with the intention to cut down on our housing waiting list.”

Lucy Field, Associate Director at AtkinsRéalis, said: “We’ve got a great collaborative team working together via the Pagabo framework to deliver these affordable housing regeneration schemes for Broxtowe Borough Council’s communities. We’ve helped the Council explore best value energy efficiency solutions, and the new homes will be greener and cheaper to heat.”

Grant assistance from Homes England has also helped support the construction of the development, and a phased completion is expected before August 2025.
