£900K University Window Refurb Project Supports Seven-Year Decarb Drive For Borras

London’s University of Westminster has benefitted from a major refurbishment scheme, including £900k worth of high-spec window replacements delivered by Borras Construction.
Taking place at the Wells Street Building, originally built in the 1960s, the project to replace its windows was procured via direct award through our Refit and Refurbishment Framework, which we manage on behalf of contracting authority Red Kite Learning Trust.
Reducing time while maintaining quality
Refurbishment and retrofit work requires specialist skills and knowledge to ensure that clients are benefitting from the latest industry-leading access to materials, solutions and consultation to ensure the work is fit for purpose – and the future. Our framework was designed to connect projects like this to the right contractor, streamlining the process and getting work underway both quickly and compliantly.
Tom Retallick, Framework Manager at Pagabo said: “The direct award process is a great option for public sector projects like this, removing the need to go through competitive tendering so that the work can be completed as soon as possible.
“To reduce any risks and help our clients procure with confidence, we always offer support during the direct award process. With this approach, we’ve helped University of Westminster to continue to deliver high-quality education without causing unnecessary delays or disruption to staff or students during the refit process.”
Alongside installing 113 steel framed double-glazed windows within the building, Borras Construction enlisted Grosvenor Contracts to fit nine cassette blinds, providing effective light control and completing the job to a high quality.
Supporting a specialist approach
The window replacement project, delivered in 2023, forms part of Borras Constructions’ ongoing commitment to decarbonisation activity; a process that started in 2018 comprising more than 20 projects, which is set to continue in the future as it increases its specialism in the area.
Robert Broadfield, Managing Director at Borras said: “We’ve taken a notable step forward towards offering industry-leading decarbonisation solutions over several years, and we know this is something that will only become more important to our clients in the future. Being appointed to Pagabo’s specialist framework helps us to deliver on this goal, and we look forward to working on a wide range of projects in the future as we continue to get a firm foothold on this important segment of the industry.”
