R G Carter were appointed as the preferred contractor to deliver a new multi-storey car park on an extremely tight timescale and within an occupied, live hospital site. The project was procured via Lot 3 of our Medium Works Framework with North Middlesex University Hospital undertaking a two-stage further competition process with support from our procurement team.
As part of the scope the Client required the design and build of a new multi-storey car park (MSCP) for the re-provision of the lost car parking capacity and relocation of clinical, corporate and administrative functions to an alternative location due to a land sale agreement with the GLA.
There was 787 parking spaces onsite, however a total of 156 spaces were lost through the decant of the initial GLA land sale and a further 109 spaces will be lost with the sale of the expansion site. The capacity of the proposed new MSCP would therefore need to be sufficient to re-provide spaces lost.
Working collaboratively with the consultant team R G Carter developed a design to create a 453 space car park over four storey’s. During the enabling works there were significant relocation and diversion works to the existing attenuation tanks to make room for the MSCP piles and foundations. This was managed in collaboration with all parties to ensure it ran smoothly and no hospital operations were disrupted.
Ben Jones, Regional Manager at Pagabo, said: "We're proud that our Medium Works Framework was able to quickly and compliantly appoint a pre-approved contractor as North Middlesex University Hospital required the works completing with tight time constraints.
R G Carter were the prefer bidder following a two-stage further competition process and have started works to deliver the new multi-story car park which is set for completion early in the new year.”
The £8.6m project is planned to be completed in January 2023!
