The new Lakeland Forum and Park aims to be a landmark provision for health and wellbeing, promoting community engagement, physical activity and healthy habits. Design principles guide towards a welcoming and open building, maximizing transparencies and indoor-outdoor connections. The proposed facility should widely embrace the river views and generate inside/ outside spaces to improve the connectivity to water. The design has a positive impact on the landscape and provides a sense of community and place.
The new Forum and Park will be a true community asset with activities for all. Truly inclusive and intergenerational. This will be achieved by a well-connected range of opportunities for cultural, social and sports activities, combined with a well-designed play park and events strategy to truly create engagement with the community. The building will also achieve Passivhaus certification, making it one of the very few centres in the work to meet this accreditation. It will ensure the highest standard in sustainability, low energy and visitor comfort.
